My story begins a long time ago, even before I was born. You could say it is a family tradition. My grandfather was a master carpenter, a lapidary and a natural gardener. He and my grandmother designed everything in their lives from furniture to flower beds. The philosophy of lifestyle design was passed to my mother, and after a little initial resistance to my father.
I spent much of my childhood building flower beds, propagating new plants and riding tractors. There was no project too small or too big. My parents instilled the feeling of adventuresome gardening through their eagerness to try many varieties of plants and designs. We spent several years doing intensive and square foot gardening, later that transitioned into larger rowed cropping. My mother decided that she preferred more structured design and went back to school to get a certificate in Landscape Design Critique. My later childhood was a series of travels to conservatories, botanical gardens, greenhouses, office buildings, parks or any other landscaped area. All in need of critique. I guess all of that passive knowledge eventually sunk in.
As an adult I have found myself returning to the one thing I swore as a child I would never do again, gardening. It has become my passion. Luckily, like my father, my husband has an adventuresome spirit . In the past seven years we have built wood fences, rock walls, ponds, waterfalls, patios, trellises and many, many planting beds. In the past two years we have built a hydroponic garden from PVC pipes that has fed our family and we are in the process of building a solar greenhouse. We confuse and baffle our neighbors, but they do not hesitate to call when they need help designing, landscaping or troubleshooting their yards and gardens.
I have compiled some information from my personal experience in the following pages. I hope that you can use it to get a feel for my landscape design knowledge. This is only an overview. Please contact me if you have any questions. I have also made a link to a more traditional style resume. Thank you!
